Meet Channy
Hi, I'm Channy Mitchell, a Barkindji woman who expresses my culture through art.
Moving to Adelaide was a big change. I left behind my family and everything familiar, feeling alone and scared at first. But becoming part of the Eagles football club changed everything. The support, friendship, and sense of belonging I've found here have made it feel like home. I love playing footy and sharing my passion with such a special team – I'm forever grateful.
My journey in art and sport is deeply personal. I dedicate both to my pop – my hero. He always believed in me, and his encouragement is what pushed me to start my art business. Even though he's no longer with us, I carry him with me on the field and in every piece I create. He stood by me and my siblings when no one else did, and his spirit continues to guide me.
Through sharing my art I am able to keep my pop's legacy and educate the future generation about Aboriginal culture.
I also draw strength from the incredible women in my life and from my own resilience. Life hasn't always been easy – there were times I wanted to give up. But I've learned to believe in myself and to lean on the support of those around me. I'm proud of how far I've come, and grateful for the people who've helped me get here.
Family is at the heart of everything I do. Even from afar, my connection to them grounds me. I'm one of triplets, and the bond I share with my siblings is something I carry with me always.
Whether on the field or through my artwork, everything I do comes from a place of love, strength, and purpose. Thanks for being part of my journey.
